To mark the 75th anniversary of the opening and blessing of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in 1950, Bishop Brendan Leahy will celebrate a Special Mass of Commemoration with us on Sunday 14 December at 11:30 am. Seasonal refreshments afterwards in the Parish Centre.
The church was commissioned by Monsignor Michael Moloney in 1949 as a chapel of ease for the growing parish of St Munchin’s. It was designed by Derry architects, Liam McCormick and Frank Corr, competition-winning designers of the Church of Our Lady and St Michael in Ennistymon, Co. Clare in 1947. It was to be a temporary wooden-cladded single cell structure that could be dismantled and re-erected elsewhere. The church was built, at a cost of €13,500, by contractors Messrs P. Molloy & Sons of Limerick, to accommodate a congregation of 600. It was blessed by Dr. Patrick O’Neill, Bishop of Limerick, on 11 December 1950.
